Review:

Sandie Jones has provided us with a fun and fast domestic suspense novel that is binge-worthy and exactly the kind of book you'll want to gobble up on the beach or by the pool. Think of this as a darker spin on the movie Monster-in-Law.

The plot to this novel starts off seemingly innocent. Girls meets boy, girl likes boy, boy likes girl, etc. Then, it's time to meet boys mom. Now, this novel can either go a comedic route, a happy-to-lucky-romance route, or a twisty tale of suspense. Luckily, this is the kind of novel that is the trail that is not so commonly used. I loved pacing to this one as it really set up a great chance for the reader to ease into a story that really goes some daring places. And trust me, Sandie Jones GOES there. Like, really does not hold back. I liked that it didn't start off with a bang and allowed the reader to get to know the main characters and get a feel for who they were separately as well as a couple before diving into the really good stuff.

I didn't find this novel to be cliched, I really enjoyed reading the characters, and I loved all of the ways that Jones really made this read not only binge-worthy, but provided me with a timeline in a novel that I really found to be effective to the story. It takes place over time, making it semi-realistic, and enjoyable. The finale to this novel was fantastically written and featured a really exciting twist that I never saw coming.

Special thanks to Minotaur Books for this copy in exchange for my honest review.
