R.L. Stine | THE WRONG NUMBER

Plot (via Goodreads):

It begins as an innocent prank, when Deena Martinson and her best friend Jade Smith make sexy phone calls to the boys from school. But Deena's half-brother Chuck catches them in the act and threatens to tell their parents, unless the girls let him in on the fun. Chuck begins making random calls, threatening anyone who answers. It's dangerous and exciting. They're even enjoying the publicity, and the uproar they've caused. Until Chuck calls a number on Fear Street.

To his horror, Chuck realizes he has called THE WRONG NUMBER. The jokes are over when murder is on the line. The murderer knows who they are and where they live — and they have nowhere to call for help.

Review:

The nostalgia of any R.L. Stine novel is just so over-the-top for me. The covers are so eerie and draw you into the story. The plots are creepy and effective. The characters are straight out of the WB (before it became The CW). The memories are endless.

As a kid, I devoured so many of these books and revisiting this one was just so much fun. I got lost in it completely and devoured the memories this one harbored. It was SCREAM before that came out. The beginning was eerie and unsettling, the adventures in teenage vigilantes was at an all time high, and the ending was perfect.

R.L. Stine is someone I grew up with and getting the chance to revisit these as an adult is so much fun. My friend Sarah and I buddy-reading this one together was another memory for the books when it comes to Fear Street and I think it's safe to say we have more coming.
