Colleen Hoover | VERITY
Plot (via Goodreads):
Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the brink of financial ruin when she accepts the job offer of a lifetime. Jeremy Crawford, husband of bestselling author Verity Crawford, has hired Lowen to complete the remaining books in a successful series his injured wife is unable to finish.
Lowen arrives at the Crawford home, ready to sort through years of Verity's notes and outlines, hoping to find enough material to get her started. What Lowen doesn't expect to uncover in the chaotic office is an unfinished autobiography Verity never intended for anyone to read. Page after page of bone-chilling admissions, including Verity's recollection of what really happened the day her daughter died.
Lowen decides to keep the manuscript hidden from Jeremy, knowing its contents would devastate the already grieving father. But as Lowen's feelings for Jeremy begin to intensify, she recognizes all the ways she could benefit if he were to read his wife's words. After all, no matter how devoted Jeremy is to his injured wife, a truth this horrifying would make it impossible for him to continue to love her.
Review:
Colleen Hoover is known for her fictional romance novels and although I generally can't get into that genre, I've always been curious about her writing. When she announced Verity - a new romantic suspense novel, I knew this was my sign to check out Colleen Hoover. Well, as soon as the novel was released, Bookstagram was BUZZING over this new novel. I was even more curious and anxious for my Amazon box to arrive when I noticed that this story was out and people were already done with it the next day. Readers were ravenous for this title, staying up until 2AM to complete it. The wait was totally worth it. Hoover is one force to be reckoned with.
Colleen Hoover did not hold back when it came to dipping her toes in this new genre that I really hope she stays with. When I read the first page, I was flabbergasted with how she just really went for it and literally started this novel with bloodshed. As the novel progressed into the meat of the story, I was ultimately hypnotized with her writing. Not only is her prose dazzling, but I loved the way she took her time letting the reader get to know the three main characters. In my favorite fashion, the story quickly alternates between Lowen and Jeremy and a manuscript by Verity. I loved this story as a whole, but going back and forth trying to decide what storyline I was into more was stress-inducing. Right when I would finish a chapter in present time and switch over to Verity's manuscript, I was ablaze with anticipation for what was next and then vice versa. With so much going on, it was as if the novel was just flying by at an unbelievable time. I wanted to read about 50 pages the first night and flew through almost 200. With a shocking ending that I didn't see coming and made me gasp - this is the novel that will have you and your entire bookclub buzzing. All I have to say is, I hope this is a genre that I see attached to Colleen's name more often because I cannot wait for her next story in this world.
