Kaira Rouda | THE FAVORITE DAUGHTER
Plot (via Goodreads):
Jane’s life has become a haze of antidepressants since the tragic death of her daughter, Mary. The accident, which happened over a year ago now, destroyed their perfect family life forever.
The trouble is, the more Jane thinks about that night, the more she realises that something doesn’t seem right. Does her youngest daughter know more than she’s letting on? What secrets is her husband still hiding from her? And why does no one trust her to be on her own?
Even if it’s the last thing she does, she’ll find out the truth…
Review:
When I read BEST DAY EVER by Kaira Rouda, I was wondering to myself, who could come up with such an unlikable narrator that is so damn fun to read about?! The novel was perfectly paced and had such a spiderweb twist of events that just left me completely floored. Well, now The Favorite Daughter is out and between the plot, that cover, and a female narrator that makes Paul from BDE look like a kitten, this is a must-read for your summer reading!
Jane is seriously a BAD ASS. Like, she is unapologetic, darkly comedic, and stunningly entertaining to read. There was a brilliant balance between eerie moments, moments of stalker threats, and a suspicious death. Where can you go wrong?! Well, let me tell you - Kaira Rouda can do no wrong. This novel is such a superb step in teh right direction compared to Best Day Ever that I can only imagine the craziness that will come with her third novel. I devoured this read in one sitting and just could not get enough of Jane and this story. Part of me wanted to get to the end so I could get some confirmation as to what really happened with the death of Mary, but the other half of me did not want to say goodbye to Jane or this story whatsoever. Equal parts comedic, darkly twisted, and brilliantly written, this is a must read for thriller fans who like their reads to have major personality and an abundance of twisty entertaining moments.
Special thanks to Wunderkind PR and Harper Books for this copy in exchange for my honest review.
