Review:

Hank Phillippi Ryan just gets better with time and The First to Lie is honestly my favorite story of hers yet. I love how she weaves legal thrillers with the journalist aspect in her stories and yet each one is so different from the other. Right from the first chapter, I was immediately hooked on this story and then you alternate between characters and timelines - phew, I was becoming more and more addicted the more I read.

The day I read this one was blistering hot and being someone who hates the heat, I had to take many breaks in the pool to cool down and take the time to deflect on what I was reading. The good? I love taking breaks and stretching a story out when I'm enjoying it because I feel for me personally, it helps me absorb more of what I'm reading than when I just fly through a story and this one had a lot to absorb. I found the story to be completely compelling and I loved all of the details in it, especially when it comes to a big pharma company that is not only mysterious but downright despicable. I think my advice for this one would be to kind of go into it blindly, which is why I loved the synopsis on Goodreads. It gives you the illusion of what you think this story could be about, but by not knowing the details, I think the plot, the characters, and the vast amount of twists and turns will really take you by surprise.

I loved these characters and the more I got into the story, the more I thought I knew what was going on only for Hank to wallop me with a twist, a turn, a revelation, and so much more. I did guess one or two of the big reveals but right when I got a little arrogant over it, Hank would throw me for a loop with one more that made this one impossible to put down. If you want a great thriller that gives you an inside look into journalism and keeps you on your toes, this is definitely one you'll want to crack open first thing in the morning and set sail into its amazing story.

Special thanks to Hank Phillippi Ryan for this copy in exchange for my honest review.
