Karin Slaughter | THE SILENT WIFE
Plot (via Goodreads):
Atlanta, Georgia. Present day. A young woman is brutally attacked and left for dead. The police investigate but the trail goes cold. Until a chance assignment takes GBI investigator Will Trent to the state penitentiary, and to a prisoner who says he recognizes the MO. The attack looks identical to the one he was accused of eight years earlier. The prisoner’s always insisted that he was innocent, and now he’s sure he has proof. The killer is still out there.
As Will digs into both crimes it becomes clear that he must solve the original case in order to reach the truth. Yet nearly a decade has passed—time for memories to fade, witnesses to vanish, evidence to disappear. And now he needs medical examiner Sara Linton to help him hunt down a ruthless murderer. But when the past and present collide, everything Will values is at stake…
Review:
I am obsessed with the Grant Co. and Will Trent series and while they have crossed paths before, The Silent Wife is the ultimate crossover for fans of both series. Right from page one, I was hooked. I love how Karin Slaughter gives her readers some great insight from the victims as well as our favorite returning characters. This one definitely was my favorite Will Trent so far and one of my favorite Grant Co. as I consider it to be a follow-up to both series. Slaughter weaves together two timelines with my favorite characters from both series and kept me feverishly turning the pages well into the night.
This case was sensationally creepy and definitely showed off Slaughter's talent for atmosphere as well as how true she stays with her characters personalities. There's a little bit of drama, a whole lot of thrills, and an ending that blew me away. This was definitely one of the more twisty endings that I never saw coming and the big reveal was insane. I cannot wait for the next Karin Slaughter and many more Will Trent books as this is my favorite series and Slaughter is the queen of crime fiction.
Special thanks to William Morrow for this copy in exchange for my honest review.
