J.T. Ellison | GOOD GIRLS LIE

Plot (via Goodreads):

Perched atop a hill in the tiny town of Marchburg, Virginia, The Goode School is a prestigious prep school known as a Silent Ivy. The boarding school of choice for daughters of the rich and influential, it accepts only the best and the brightest. Its elite status, long-held traditions and honor code are ideal for preparing exceptional young women for brilliant futures at Ivy League universities and beyond. But a stranger has come to Goode, and this ivy has turned poisonous.

In a world where appearances are everything, as long as students pretend to follow the rules, no one questions the cruelties of the secret societies or the dubious behavior of the privileged young women who expect to get away with murder. But when a popular student is found dead, the truth cannot be ignored. Rumors suggest she was struggling with a secret that drove her to suicide.

But look closely…because there are truths and there are lies, and then there is everything that really happened.

Review:

I love some J.T. Ellison. It's as simple as that. She is a wonderfully gifted storyteller who always keeps me immersed in her stories and right on the edge of my seat. One thing that I really admire about Ellison is her ability to take her readers in so many different directions with each story being completely separate on their own. Good Girls Lie is no exception and just might be her darkest and most complex tale yet...and my new personal favorite!

Good Girls Lie is possibly the most atmospheric of Ellison's novels so far with the Goode School almost taking on a character of its own. There were definitely some moments that were eerie to read only because they featured a small cottage in the woods on the property of this school and when I imagined it, I was waiting for something or someone to jump out and go for the jugular...but that's not Ellison's style. With what starts off as a harrowing and really intensely creepy scene, the novel then transcends back into the school year and introduces us to a wonderfully crafted cast of characters that come alive off the pages. What I love about Ellison's characters is that they do a fantastic job of really taking the reader in the direction that Ellison wants, whether we are being purposely given a false story or not. Her characters wrap you up in a warm hug and do a brilliant job at telling you a story, even if some stab you in the back. Ash and Ford really stuck out for me in this one and I think they both carried this tale so effectively. I was stunned and just in awe at how quickly this read went by and how often I still think of it. Shout-out to my girl J.T. Ellison because you always keep me invested in your stories, you make sure I devour them in one day, and you continuously deliver page after page of sheer brilliance.

If you're looking for a fast-paced and twisty novel with almost a gothic atmospheric aspect and some sensationally written and devilish characters, Good Girls Lie is the book for you. Between the setting, the characters, and all of the intense twists and turns this story takes, I guarantee you won't want to miss out on this well-crafted story.

Special thanks to MIRA for this copy in exchange for my honest review.
