Christina McDonald | BEHIND EVERY LIE

Plot (via Goodreads):

Determined to clear her name, Eva heads from Seattle to London—Kat’s former home—for answers. But as she unravels her mother’s carefully held secrets, Eva soon realizes that someone doesn’t want her to know the truth. And with violent memories beginning to emerge, Eva doesn’t know who to trust. Least of all herself.

Review:

Last winter, I fell in love with Christina McDonald and her writing. She is the kind of author that you plan on starting a book and then before you know it, you are wild-haired, have no sense of time, and up way past your bedtime. So, she's a bookworms best friend and Behind Every Lie is no exception. Now, here is the thing with what I find most addictive about Christina McDonald's writing; her novels have almost a domestic thriller plot to them as they focus heavily on family relationships, but the pacing is more comparable of a suspense and thriller which culminates into one hell of a story with a hauntingly emotional prose and characters that you can't help but become addicted to.

There is definitely more going on with Behind Every Lie than Christina's debut novel, but I loved how both novels really focused on the mother/daughter relationships and yet both had completely different vibes. With this one, I loved that there was dual perspective and dual timelines. It didn't take me very long to to become addicted to both story-lines within this one and for my curiosity to be sparked wondering how they were connected. I had so many theories (most I was wrong about, but one I was right) and enjoyed how Christina toyed with my imagination and my emotions. I honestly knew what this one was going to be about when I read it as I basically memorized the synopsis because I was so excited, but my recommendation is to go into this one completely blind because there were so many great small and big details that go into the story-line and happen with this one that just completely kept me on my toes and immersed in the story.

Between The Night Olivia Fell and Behind Every Lie, Christina McDonald has delivered binge-worthy and entertaining thrillers with domestic aspects, fantastic characters, and plots you can get lost in. Consider this brilliant woman a go-to author for me; I cannot wait for book three!
