Emily Liebert | PRETTY REVENGE

Plot (via Goodreads):

Kerrie O’Malley, jobless and in an unfulfilling relationship, can isolate the singular moment in her life when things veered off course—the night she was irrevocably wronged by someone she looked up to. Eighteen years later, when Kerrie sees the very woman who destroyed her life on television, a fire ignites inside her. The stakes are high. The risks are perilous. But she’ll stop at nothing to achieve the retribution she deserves.

Jordana Pierson is a gilded New Yorker who appears to have it all: wealth, glamour, a successful and handsome husband, and a thriving wedding concierge business. Her record is spotless. Her business is flourishing. No one knows the truth about her and the dark shadows of her past.

No one, that is, except Kerrie.

Review:

Coming off from a pretty emotionally-charged novel that left me with a serious book hangover, I wanted a change of pace. Pretty Revenge was seriously one of the most entertaining novels I have yet to read. I'll keep this one short and sweet because when I initially picked this one up, I had somewhat of an idea as to what I was getting myself into when I opened it due to the title. Other than the title, I went into this one without a full grasp as to the backstory and I felt this was for the best as it didn't mess with my expectations and allowed me to really enjoy every aspect of the story. Right from the initial first chapter, I was feeling entertained and I loved how the story progressed, alternating between two female characters and had almost a dark humorous cloud that hovered over the entire book.

While it was darkly comedic at times, this one is definitely a thriller with some ominous and haunting moments, including a rather torturous and harrowing backstory that kind of sobered me up in my drunken moments of dark humor and binge-worthy chapters that kept me immersed and begging for more. There were just so many moments that I either was laughing or getting anxious wondering what would happen next, promising myself one more chapter...and  then before I knew it, the novel was over and ended in a cathartic conclusion that left me a little saddened that the story was over, happy that I got to enjoy this one in one sitting, and eager to see what Emily Liebert does next. Whatever it is, sign me up.
