Courtney Cole | MINE
Plot (via Goodreads):
Tessa was prepared for the hurricane. Lindsey was the storm she didn’t see coming.
When Tessa Taylor unlocked her husband Ethan’s iPad to discover nude photos from a twenty-six-year-old bombshell named Lindsey, her seemingly perfect life came to a screeching halt.
With a hurricane barreling toward Florida and Ethan stuck on a business trip, Tessa finds herself imprisoned in her own home with a choice to make: Does she ride out the storm until she can confront Ethan in person, or does she take matters into her own hands?
Increasingly restless and desperate for revenge, Tessa resolves to act. And when she lures Lindsey over a few hours later, there’s no turning back.
What ensues is a battle of wills between two well-matched opponents, blinded by love for the same man but driven by demons of their own. Like storm-ravaged Florida, neither woman will be the same when the skies clear.
Review:
When I read the synopsis to Mine by Courtney Cole, I was like "I NEED THIS BOOK!" Between the dark and stormy hurricane setting, the dual timeline and character perspectives, and a plot about two women both in love with one man and neither one ready to give him up anytime soon - I was hooked from the first chapter, which was comedic at times and really showcased the personality of Tessa and yet the ominous storm brewing in the background as Tessa headed to the house by herself was cinematic and chilling, creating the perfect storm and also the perfect vision for me as a reader.
I am so glad I started this one when I was on a little stay-cation because once I read the first chapter, it was OVER for me. I was immersed and unwilling to take the smallest of breaks for the necessities in life like hydrating or eating. The novel progresses rather quickly, even at only about 300 pages. I enjoyed how Tessa's chapters were present time and Lindsey's chapters were from the time she met Ethan leading up to her ending up face-to-face with Tessa. With plenty of little twists and turns to keep me enthralled with this read and an ending that was refreshing and optimistic for a plot that has been told a few times before, this is definitely one I would recommend for your next beach day or laying out by the pool. A quick and entertaining thriller with a lot to offer, this is the type of read all thriller and suspense fans can gobble up quickly in one day.
